Durability and reduced operator hazard in a next gen design.
The old days of silencer design are over. No longer are consumers happy to just put a gas trap on the end of a barrel. Gassy silencers push noise, pressure, and toxic fumes back through the action and into the face of the shooter. Current generation silencers are more aware of these dangers and new designs seek to reduce these hazards to the shooter. Enter the Silencerco Velos LBP.
Silencero has been making suppressors since 2008 and builds their reputation on constant innovation. The Omega 300, one of the best selling silencers of all time, brought the now ubiquitous HUB thread to market. The Salvo 12 was the first widely available shotgun silencer in the United States. The Maxim 9 brought a modular, integrally suppressed handgun to the hands of shooters. Now, the Velos LBP is here. Manufactured with a combination of state of the art additive manufacturing (3D printed Inconel!) and traditional machining, Silencerco is able to produce this hybrid design. With a high gas flow rate, a modified Hoplon blast baffle, and carefully selected materials, the Velos LBP reduces toxic hazard to the shooter, wear and tear on the weapon, and achieve a new level of durability for Silencerco. No barrel length restrictions, a full auto rating, and a modular Charlie ASR mounting system.
Andrew Herbst, SilencerCo Product Manager said, “Our goal was to bring the best balance of sound performance, strength, and reduced impact to the host firearm’s operating system. We’ve created a product that does just that. There is no compromising sound or flash performance with the Velos LBP. The inclusion of our Hoplon blast baffle design and no barrel restrictions confirms the Velos LBP will handle whatever you choose to throw at it. It’s the low back-pressure silencer your semi and fully automatic firearms have been waiting for.”
Silencers aren’t just about noise. It is claimed that the Finns have a saying, “A silencer doesn’t make you silent, it makes you invisible.” Whether this apocryphal quote is real or not doesn’t diminish its meaning. Silencers are also about killing flash. From design to materials, the Velos LBP is built to suppress flash as effectively as it does sound. Titanium has been known to spark when firing, so for this model Silencerco has selected 17-4 stainless steel and Inconel 625. No sparks, ever. High flow rate silencers are believed by some to be more susceptible to muzzle flash than more traditional gas traps, so Silencerco has taken a flash hider end cap and inverted it to keep the classic flat cap look while improving flash performance.
