Description

A near-clone of the FBI Hostage Rescue Team’s current-issue precision rifle, hand-built by RW “Rob” Schneider at Potomac Armory on a match-grade Remington 700 short action in an HRT-contract McMillan A3-5 stock, chambered in .308 Winchester.

  • FBI HRT near-clone: every non-action component (stock, muzzle device, front rail, trigger guard, magazine, bipod) matches the HRT contract rifle specification.
  • Match-grade 5R-rifled 20″ stainless barrel — 5R rifling reduces jacket deformation and typically improves cleaning cycles relative to traditional rifling.
  • McMillan A3-5 HRT-contract stock with adjustable cheek piece, six QD flush cups, OD Green finish, and precision aluminum pillar bedding for the Rem 700 short action.
  • Badger Ordnance EFR front rail for clip-on night-vision compatibility, plus Badger M5 DBM trigger guard and steel magazine.
  • Surefire muzzle brake and Harris bipod as fielded on the HRT rifle.

The FBI Hostage Rescue Team, based at Quantico, is the Bureau’s Tier One counterterrorism and hostage-rescue element. Its precision rifle inventory has evolved over the program’s history, and the current-generation HRT sniper rifle is a bolt-action .308 Winchester in a purpose-built McMillan stock, with accessory hardware specified through Badger Ordnance, Surefire, and Harris. This rifle is a near-clone because the action is a new-production Remington 700 rather than the original HRT-contract action — every other component matches the HRT build list.

The rifle is designed and assembled by Potomac Armory and gunsmithed by RW “Rob” Schneider, who has worked the FBI HRT contract directly. The Remington 700 short action is machined from a single steel billet; the bolt face is recessed and locks inside the counter-bored breech, forming the “three rings of steel” that surround the .308 case head — the geometry that defines the 700 family’s reputation for strength and safety. This example ships with a match-grade 5R-rifled 20″ stainless barrel, trued lug, polished bolt, and factory Remington trigger.

The McMillan A3-5 stock is made under contract for Potomac Armory to the HRT spec — adjustable cheek piece, six flush-cup QD sling points positioned for right-side, left-side, and forend carry, and a bipod stud. The stock is pre-fit with aluminum pillar bedding machined for the Remington 700 short action and inletted for the Badger EFR front rail and Badger M5 DBM trigger guard. The Badger EFR extends the scope rail forward, which allows a clip-on thermal or night-vision device to mount ahead of the day scope without re-zeroing. A Harris bipod and Surefire muzzle brake ship installed.
