A factory Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW 7″ 300 Blackout upper receiver group — a new take-off from a factory-assembled PDW SBR, built around the MFR XL rail for under-the-rail suppressor clearance.
- Factory DD take-off: complete upper pulled from a new Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW short-barreled rifle — not a parts-bin build
- 7″ cold-hammer-forged barrel, 1:7 twist, 300 Blackout: the twist rate and barrel length are the DD PDW factory spec
- 6″ MFR XL M-LOK rail with 1.61″ internal diameter: a .30-cal suppressor up to ~1.55″ OD tucks under the rail — the reason the PDW upper has a cult following
- Linear blast compensator: directs blast forward for indoor and vehicle work; threads off to mount a direct-thread can
- DD bolt-up system with anti-rotation tabs and a factory DD bolt carrier group
What the DDM4 PDW upper is
The Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW is a 7″-barreled 300 Blackout short-barreled rifle built around Daniel Defense’s MFR XL handguard — a 6″ M-LOK rail with a 1.61″ internal diameter. That internal diameter is the reason the PDW exists as a distinct product: a standard .30-caliber suppressor (an OD of roughly 1.5″ or less) fits inside the rail when the blast comp is removed and a direct-thread can is installed. The suppressor’s body nests alongside the barrel instead of hanging off the front of it, which is what gives the PDW its unusually compact suppressed length.
This upper is a factory take-off — Daniel Defense assembles the complete PDW SBR, and Charlie’s receives the complete upper pulled off the factory rifle during disassembly at Potomac Armory. It is not a hand-build; it is the same upper assembly that shipped on the complete PDW. The upper receiver is forged 7075 military-grade aluminum with a hardcoat Type III black anodize, matched to a forged 6061-T6 MFR XL rail with the same finish.
Suppressor setup
With the linear blast compensator installed, the upper runs supersonic and subsonic 300 Blackout without special tuning. To suppress, remove the blast comp and install a direct-thread .30 cal can in the 1.5″-or-less OD range — the shorter, simpler, older-generation .30 cans are a better fit for the MFR XL’s internal diameter than the newer, thicker titanium designs. 300 Blackout is easy to suppress and does not demand a modern flow-through can; a classic direct-thread .30 suppressor does the job and keeps the overall length short.

Supply note: these factory take-off PDW uppers move fast. If you can add it to the cart, we have it — but for every four we receive, we typically have eight people on the notify list. Don’t hesitate if you see it in stock. FDE and Cobalt Cerakote variants are also available and tend to be more consistent inventory. Photos show the complete rifle and handstop configuration for illustration — this listing is the upper group only.
We keep the PDW upper on the bench because Daniel Defense releases them in batches and we can usually grab a small allocation each run. If you’re building a .300 BLK host for a short, light, suppressed carbine, this is the one that started the category. Add to cart and we’ll get it moving.
