The receiver end plate sits at the rear of the lower receiver, sandwiched between the castle nut and the lower receiver face after the buffer tube is installed. It locks the buffer tube rotationally and provides the surface against which the castle nut is staked after final torque. On a standard mil-spec AR-15 lower, the end plate threads onto the buffer tube after the tube is installed, and the castle nut then threads on over it and is torqued to approximately 35 to 40 foot-pounds, and staking the nut into one of the plate’s witness notches afterward keeps it from working loose under recoil during sustained fire. This standard end plate has a clean, low-profile rear face with no sling hardware — builders who want QD sling attachment points at the back of the lower should look at Anderson’s ambidextrous sling point version instead. It threads onto any standard mil-spec buffer tube, making it a straightforward, direct-fit replacement whether you’re finishing a new lower build or swapping out a damaged original.
