What is an 80% .308 lower receiver?
It’s a block of 7075-T6 aluminum that’s been partially machined — the fire control pocket, trigger and hammer pin holes, trigger slot, and safety selector hole are left unfinished. With an 80% lower jig and the right tooling, you can complete the remaining machining yourself and turn it into a functional firearm receiver.
Do I need an FFL to build a firearm from an 80% lower for personal use?
No. Building a firearm for your own personal use is legal under the Gun Control Act of 1968, and the ATF’s own firearms technology FAQ page confirms it.
